Important Notes
- It is not mandatory for British citizens born abroad to have their births recorded in UK records.
- If a birth was not registered with a British Consulate, Embassy, or High Commission, we cannot provide a copy of the certificate. You will need to contact the birth registrars in the country where the birth took place.
Former British Territories or Protectorates
Many countries were once part of the UK but have since gained independence. When control was handed over to local governments, birth records remained in those countries.
- No records were transferred to UK authorities, so we cannot supply certificates for these cases.
- You will need to contact the relevant birth registrars in the respective country for assistance.
